They are second only to the Amur Tiger in size, in fact many northern Bengal Tigers, in particular the Nepalese Tigers are thought to rival the Amur Tiger in size.
\r\nBengal tigers are threatened by habitat fragmentation, poaching of tigers and their prey and retaliation killings resulting from human-tiger conflict. Pressure on the landscape continues from large scale development from mining, dams and other industry. There are possibly less than 1,300 tigers left in the wild in India. Estimates suggest a further 200 live in Bangladesh, 370 in Nepal, 150 in Western Myanmar and 80 in Bhutan.
