Snow Leopards
There are 2 Snow Leopards currently at the WHF. The amazing male is Ranschan and a female Laila arrived in September 2011 and is currently in quarantine. The lovely Mizi has moved to PWP for a while.
Perhaps the most stunning and beautiful big cats, the Snow Leopard is an amazing animal. Living at altitudes higher than those of most predators in South and Central Asia, the Snow Leopard survives in some of the most difficult terrains and hostile climates in the world.
The cat is renowned for it long tail that helps protect its face during extreme cold and enables it to balance itself while encountering difficult terrain.
Their leaping ability, over 40 feet in a single leap, surpasses even that of the Puma. This enables these incredible cat to surprise its prey and encounter the hilly ranges of its territory.
Numbers in the wild are believed to be around five thousand - although their secretive nature makes it hard to be certain of their population.
