Lions

There are currently 4 male lions at the WHF. 3 are brothers that live together. Its quite rare for 3 male Lions to be kept together due to their desire to dominate and lead the pride. Kafara, Tiny and Manzi have the odd tiff but generally get on very well together.

Themba, a 2 year old white lion arrived in March 2011 from Paradise Wildlife Park

Lions are renowned as the King of Beasts - through ages the lion has earned an unparalleled amount of respect from mankind for his strength, courage and nobility among all other animals. Most people tend to agree that there is something special about lions, especially the big males with their magnificent manes.

Although as yet not classified as endangered the African Lion numbers are dwindling and there may be as few as 20,000 remaining in the wild. Lions are the most sociable of all the big cats and the only ones that live in family groups called "prides".
