Tigers
This part of the site is dedicated to the Tigers of the WHF. There are Amur, Sumatran, Bengal and hybrid tigers on site and pictures of most of them can be found here. I will also try and give a few interesting facts about the different sub species to give you an idea of the uphill battle that is faced to save tigers going extinct in the wild - and some of them in our lifetime. Every sub species is now classified as endangered.
The tiger is the largest and most powerful of all the big cats. Unbelievably there are thought to be fewer than 3,500 Tigers remaining in the wild.........disgraceful considering that it is thought that there were over 100,000 in the early 1900's.
All tigers essentially face the same threats - habitat destruction by humans, illegal trade in tiger skins and body parts - mainly for Chinese medicine and competition for food with humans.
